The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 is an instant camera. It is the successor of the Instax Mini 8 and was introduced in 2017.

The biggest new features compared to the Instax Mini 8 are the selfie mirror next to the lens and an included close-up lens.

Features

The operation of the Instax Mini 9 is very simple. It is turned on by a button next to the lens, and turned off by pushing the lens in. There are five different shooting modes (Indoor, Cloudy, Sunny, Very Sunny, Hi-Key). A small LED lights up in the mode recommended by the camera. The Hi-Key mode produces soft bright images. It is set by turning the lens.

The viewfinder is not connected to the lens and only gives a rough preview of the later image. You generally don't need a manual for the Instax Mini 9.

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 comes with a built-in flash. The flash fires automatically and has a range of up to 2.7 meters. It cannot be turned off.

The image detail is quite normal and is well suited for portraits and selfies. There is no zoom. There is a small mirror next to the lens. This helps when taking selfies.

For close-ups and macro pictures, there is a close-up lens that allows taking pictures at a distance of 30 cm from the subject. You should not rely on the viewfinder, as it deviates somewhat from the actual image section when taking close-ups.

The Instax Mini 9 does not have a tripod, remote shutter release or self-timer function.

On the back is the frame counter with the remaining shots. There is an eyelet on the sides for a loop or camera strap.

Films for the Instax Mini 9

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 is designed for the Instax Mini format. Fujifilm manufactures the instant films for this format.

It is the smallest instant format and half the size of the Instax Wide format. The dimensions of a picture are 8.6 x 5.4 cm. The captured image is 62 x 46 mm. The rest is the frame around the picture. An credit card is about the same size as an Instax Mini picture.

A cassette holds the instant pictures. The film cassette is placed in the camera. You can take ten pictures with one cassette. When the frame counter shows zero, the cassette must be replaced. The cost of one picture is about 70 cents.

After the picture is thrown out of the camera The development time is only a few minutes. The pictures with the color film (Instax Mini Film (eBay / Amazon)) impress with high-contrast colors. Pens and stickers can be used to decorate the white frame around the pictures.

If you want to take black and white pictures, you can go for the Instax Mini Monochrome (eBay / Amazon). A good use for the Instax Mini format is weddings and scrapbooking.
